Description The primary purpose of this classification is to ensure the safety of individuals by carrying out emergency medical service (EMS) activities, primarily on an ambulance. In addition to responding to emergencies, EMS providers also dedicate a significant amount of time to training in various EMS skills. They are responsible for maintaining and repairing medical equipment and apparatus, as well as taking care of the buildings and grounds where they work. Furthermore, they actively engage in public education activities related to medical emergencies.

The work of EMS providers involves both the station and emergency scenes, and it is typically carried out under close supervision and in accordance with established procedures. Throughout the process, an officer inspects their work to ensure compliance. In certain situations, employees in this classification may be required to act as the highest-level EMS provider at emergency scenes. In such cases, they are responsible for managing the scene and coordinating the efforts of other EMS responders involved in the emergency medical response. They may also be assigned additional responsibilities as needed.

Single role paramedic providers work under the general supervision of the EMS Lieutenant. It is important to note that this is a non-exempt position, meaning that it is subject to the regulations outlined in the Fair Labor Standards Act for career staff.
  • Administers emergency medical services to injured or sick persons per protocol.
  • Maintain as necessary, district records, and prepare reports as assigned.
  • Assist when necessary, the district mechanic in the conduct of the regular maintenance program.
  • Respond to emergency medical calls for help with assigned unit.
  • Under the direction of the company officer, may be asked to serve as an instructor in specialized in-service training courses.
  • The EMS provider may attend conferences, schools and various meetings to keep abreast of new developments in EMS related areas as approved by the Training Division.
  • The EMS provider shall be responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of their station, apparatus, to include tools and other district property assigned to or stored therein.
  • Participates in EMS training.
  • Performs general maintenance work in the up-keep of the District’s property.
  • Conducts tours of station houses for scout, civic and other interested groups.
  • Operates radios and other communications equipment.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned by the company officer or higher.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain, and maintain an appropriate, valid Oregon Driver’s license
  • Oregon state Paramedic license or NREMT Paramedic with associate's degree and ability to obtain full reciprocity by testing date

Desired qualifications include a record of an NFPA driver certification or National Safety Council for Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC 3) and one - year experience operating on an ALS ambulance
